Work Experience

Customer Success Engineer, MathWorks, 2022 - Present

I am currently part of the academic support team at MathWorks, the makers of MATLAB and Simulink software. I support academics in Northern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa who are using our software for teaching in engineering and science disciplines. This work is varied and typically takes the form of one to one or group discussions, in-person or online. The provided support ranges from technical consultation to collaboration on interactive curriculum materials.

Training Engineer, MathWorks, 2018 - 2022

Working as part of the training services team at MathWorks I taught MATLAB and Simulink fundamentals courses as well as a range of advanced courses including image processing, app development and object oriented programming. Courses were interactive and typically taught to groups of 12, in-person or online. This work required quick thinking, good interpersonal and presentational skills and crucially the ability to explain complex concepts to a novice audience.

Technical Executive, Symphony Environment, 2010 - 2012

I was part of the quality control and R&D team. Testing environmental additives for plastic products.

Qualifications

PhD, Biomechanical Engineering, University College London, 2014 - 2018

Research into the fluid dynamics of human swallowing, to help improve treatment methods for people with dysphagia. I designed and built an experimental rig which replicated the swallowing process. This in-vitro device was used to study the flow mechanics of various non-Newtonian shear thinning fluids. These experiments produced pressure and velocity maps of fluid flow using a technique called particle image velocimetry. More info here.
