Lucozade Tablet Case

Lucozade tablets are a common hypo (low blood sugar) treatment for diabetics. The tablets themselves are compressed powder and come in a paper wrapping. Depending on how good your blood sugar control is you might find you don’t have to eat the tablets very often. This means the paper wrapping breaks over time and as tablets break they leave a sticky powdery mess in your bag or pocket.

I found I was running into this problem quite often and apart from the mess it meant I would be throwing away unused packets of tablets when they had become too damaged. My solution was to design a plastic case for the tablets so they wouldn’t wear down over time.

The case is 3D printed and to keep things simple it is a single piece design with small protrusions at the opening to hold the tablets in place and a hole at the bottom to help get them out. The other benefit to the case is that if you eat some of the tablets (half a pack is about right for me) you can keep the rest in the case without further mess.

Happy with this solution I posted a message on a UK diabetic forum showcasing the idea and offering a free case to any other diabetics who would find this useful. As a result, over the past few years I have been contacted by a number of diabetics who were interested. I send them a couple of cases and they usually donate something to diabetes UK (the charity who hosts the forum).

This has been the most satisfying part of this project, to know there are people out there who were experiencing the same problem and are now using the case. It’s a real buzz when I get an email out of the blue (about once every few months) from someone who has stumbled upon the post. Here is a map of some of the places the case has ended up.

So far I’ve had two unrelated requests for a case from forest tree surgeons. They were both very happy and one sent me some pictures.
